Our History

Building on the Rock began 15 years ago in the Nash Family’s living room with a handful of adventurous people who were sent from Lighthouse Alliance Church in Tuckerton and said “yes” to seeing what God might want to do in Jackson, NJ . As they grew, the Christian and Missionary Alliance asked if Pastor Bob Nash would be willing to join his team with a small little church of seniors citizens on Beckerville Road in Manchester, NJ called Ocean County Alliance. He said “yes” and the growing church plant joined with the small congregation and became Building on the Rock Community Church believing they could do more together than they could do apart. Since then, BOTR has become a sending church, sending out teams of people to plant churches, help restart churches, and help serve churches like Living Hope in New Egypt, Living Water in Bayville, Alive Again Alliance in Toms River, Main Street Alliance in Manahawkin and other local churches. We continue to say ‘yes’ believing we can do more together for Jesus, than we can do alone.

Sometimes this requires us to change directions, put ministries on hold, or send our best away to help other churches. Every January we take a rest to pray about the vision for the year to see where the Spirit might be moving, to get our hearts excited, and to make sure we are lining up with Christ.

An important facet of our story is that many years ago a woman from the Baptist church down the street prophesied that Beckerville Road would be a ‘highway to holiness’ and that many nations would eat the fruit off the trees on Beckerville Rd. The pastor from the church believed that this prophecy was going to be fulfilled through Building on the Rock. We could never have imagined how this would come to pass. Would our tiny building be built into a mega church? Would we fly our pastors around the world on jets? No, it started ten years ago by saying “yes” to hosting a French Exchange Student one summer. Since then we have been hosting dozens and dozens of students who come for a time... hear the gospel, experience being apart of the body of Christ, and then go back to where they came from to share about all they have experienced, sometimes even returning with family and friends. From this, BOTR was asked to become a country consultant with France, we said “yes”. We now have a healthy partnership with Trinity Alliance, an international church in Paris in which we exchange teams of people several times a year. Recently, we have also been asked to build a partnership with Germany, and we said ‘yes’...

We can do more together than we can do apart.
What will God do with your “yes”?!

You were made for more, you were made to rock the world!
